In the United States people are taught from a very early age if they are smart, have good character, work hard, and make smart choices, they will be rewarded with positions of leadership and power. Individuals who can gain consent of other groups, including those who are being led or controlled, can maintain leadership and control through a process called hegemony (Coakley, 2007). Hegemony is never permanent, but it can be maintained in society as long as most people feel their lives are as good as can be expected and that there is no strong reason to change the way social worlds are currently organized. So what allows some people to flourish in the area of leadership while others fail miserably? Over the next couple of weeks I will be discussing various leadership topics, articles, and you tube videos. I hope you enjoy by blog. Comments are not only welcomed, they are encouraged. In closing today, I am going to leave you with an article and a video. The article is on leadership in sports and how to get the most out of your athletes. I hope you read it and enjoy it. The video is a short video on what everyone should know about the first rule of leadership (funny video...only about nine seconds long). I am having trouble uploading the video to this site so I will put the address on here for you to copy and paste.

Very appropriate article choice. It was right along the lines of what we are reading from Wooden, but differently worded and fresh enough to have benefit. Certainly for me at least, as I am new to these concepts. I look forward to more from you. And I'm sure to comment again.
